Rules

Paid rank is the bid. Free rank is the clicks.

TopRepo is a public leaderboard for discovering GitHub repositories, web apps, mobile apps, and desktop apps. You can post for free and still appear on the board. Paying is optional, and it only buys a rank above every free listing on that board. Visitors decide what is worth opening.

How ranking works

  • You can list a public GitHub repo, website, App Store / Play listing, or desktop app for free. Each column ranks on its own. Free listings always sit below every paid rank on that board. Among free listings, more clicks rank higher; equal clicks keep the earlier listing above.
  • Paid bids are whole US dollars. The minimum paid bid is $2, and each increase must be at least $1.
  • Any paid listing outranks every free listing, even a $2 bid. Among paid listings on that board, the higher bid ranks higher. Boards do not share a ladder: if Repos #1 is $2, Mobile #1 and Desktop apps #1 can also be $2. Taking Repos #1 then costs $3 or more; taking Mobile #1 then costs $3 or more.
  • If two or more people bid the same paid amount, whoever paid first keeps the higher rank.
  • Anyone may raise a listing already on the board. Enter the same URL and choose a bid high enough to take the rank you want.
  • Raising a live paid listing charges only the difference. If a listing is at $30 and you take it to $100, you pay $70. Raising a free listing charges the full bid.
  • The board stays live. Rank changes when someone outbids — there is no daily or weekly reset.

What you can submit

  • A public GitHub repository, a public website, an App Store / Google Play app, or a desktop app with a public website URL. Each board — Repos, Web apps, Mobile, and Desktop apps — has its own bid ladder, so a payment only buys a rank in that column. The minimum bid and increment are the same on every board.
  • You must confirm that you are permitted to submit or promote this listing. Anyone may bid, including on a listing they did not originally submit.
  • Submit the original URL. GitHub listings use https://github.com/owner/repo. Web apps and desktop apps use the public HTTPS site. Mobile listings use an App Store or Google Play URL. Choose the board you want before you submit: a website listed as a web app stays on Web apps, and the same URL can be listed separately as a desktop app. Submitting the same canonical URL again on that board updates its existing listing instead of creating a duplicate.
  • User-owned and organization-owned repositories are both allowed. TopRepo labels which kind of owner it is.
  • Archived and forked repos can be listed, but they are flagged in the preview.

Prohibited listings

  • Malware, deceptive links, impersonation, fake repositories, spam, and attempts to manipulate the board are prohibited.
  • Illegal products or content, pornography, explicit adult content, and destinations that put visitors at risk are not permitted.
  • A listing may be removed if the destination is deleted, made private, taken down from the store, or no longer points to an eligible public page.

After you pay

  • Stripe collects the billing address at checkout. EU purchases aren't available yet, but they will be soon. If an EU billing address is used, the payment is canceled or refunded and the listing is not published.
  • Canadian buyers may see GST/HST added on top of the bid. Other regions are charged the bid amount unless a tax registration is added later.
  • A completed payment publishes the listing or activates its new bid. Free listings go live immediately without checkout. An attempted or failed payment does not claim a paid rank.
  • The board recalculates immediately from all active bids. Automated acceptance and paid placement are not editorial endorsements.
  • Placement does not guarantee stars, forks, traffic, contributors, sales, revenue, or any other outcome.
  • Visitors are sent to the original GitHub repo, website, store listing, or desktop app site. TopRepo does not host the destination.

Attribution and source links

  • Every listing identifies and links to the original source and credits the owner or publisher.
  • TopRepo displays public metadata such as the name, owner, description, and preview image. GitHub listings can also show language and stars. It does not generate summaries or republish README text.
  • Visitors are sent directly to the original source. TopRepo does not claim authorship of submitted listings.

Removal and moderation

  • Listings may be rejected or removed for abuse, unsafe destinations, rights complaints, prohibited content, or rule violations.
  • Automated lookup or acceptance does not prevent TopRepo from reviewing and removing a listing later.
  • Rules may be updated as new abuse patterns appear.
